Cannabis laws in Berlin & Germany
Since the Cannabis Act (CanG) came into force on 1 April 2024, recreational cannabis is partially legal for adults in Germany, including in Berlin, Germany's capital.
Legal for adults (18+)
Only adults aged 18 and over may possess and consume cannabis. It remains strictly illegal for minors.
Possession limits
Adults may carry up to 25 grams of dried cannabis in public and keep up to 50 grams at home for personal use.
Home cultivation
You may grow up to 3 cannabis plants at home for personal use, kept safely away from children and teenagers.
Cannabis social clubs
Non-commercial cultivation associations ("Anbauvereinigungen") may grow and distribute limited amounts to registered adult members.
Where you can't consume
Consumption is banned near schools, playgrounds and sports facilities, and restricted in pedestrian zones during daytime hours.
No selling & no driving impaired
Commercial sale to the public remains illegal, and driving under the influence of cannabis is a serious offence.
